ORGANIZATION: Midtown Family Services

Help maintain our website and ensure it reflects the important work we do at. This is a great opportunity to support a mission-driven organization while using your digital skills for good.

Time Commitment: 2-6 hours/month (flexible). Earn volunteer hours.

Location: Option to work remotely, but ability to come into our office and experience our mission

What You’ll Do:

  • Update content (text, images, events, blog posts)

  • Perform routine maintenance (e.g., plugin/theme updates, backups)

  • Improve usability and accessibility

  • Troubleshoot minor technical issues

  • Help ensure the site is secure and functioning smoothly

Technical Skills or a Curiosity & Aptitude to Learn:

  • Website platform experience (e.g., WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, or your custom CMS)

  • HTML/CSS (basic to moderate, for customizing pages and fixing formatting)

  • Basic JavaScript (helpful but not always essential)

  • Web hosting & domain management (DNS updates, SSL, backups)

  • SEO fundamentals (meta tags, alt text, clean URLs)

  • Design Asthetics: Eye for clean design and user experience
  • Self Driven: Ability to work independently and respond in a timely way

Midtown Family Services' mission is to assist individuals and families who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, become self-sufficient in housing and interdependent domains through timely and evidence-based interventions.

Description

Midtown Family Services provides support for low-income individuals/families living in San Jose and surrounding communities in two program areas: Financial counseling and navigation services for low income, working, members of the community with basic needs; and reentry of individuals back into the community after incarceration in state prison.
