Rocky Mountain National Park is looking to recruit additional volunteers to serve at Longs Peak and Wild Basin Ranger Stations, which are unique and remote areas of the park. Prior experience hiking in these areas is required, and Longs Peak Ranger Station volunteers must have experience summiting, or attempting to summit, Longs Peak. Applicants should have an interest in sharing their knowledge with the public to improve visitor experience and safety. Common duties include relaying Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR) information to visitors, answering visitor questions, and communicating with park staff via radio.
Volunteers may encounter a wide variety of visitors including rock climbers, backpackers, families and Junior Rangers, and day hikers. Volunteers must be comfortable answering repetitive questions and greeting visitors of all experience levels. Volunteers will be asked to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification as part of this position, and classes may be available at the park.
Volunteer shifts are one day/week from approximately 8:00am-3:00pm, although exact shift duration is flexible. Available shifts at Longs Peak are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays . Available shifts at Wild Basin are on Mondays and Sundays . Other days of the week are not available at this time.
Lodging is not available as part of this volunteer opportunity.
