Disaster Cycle Services

Shelter Resident Transition (SRT) Service Associate

Help people on their road toward recovery!

§ Activated exclusively during major national disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildfires, and earthquakes.

§ In-person support at mass care shelters, helping jump start disaster clients’ long-term recovery.

Responsibilities:

§ Work closely with shelter residents, helping them understand and utilize available resources.

§ Support individuals, households, and families as they create personalized action plans.

§ Assist clients as they transition as quickly as possible from a temporary shelter to a more sustainable living solution.

§ Provide services equitably while empowering clients to take ownership of their own recovery.

§ Attend regularly scheduled meetings and stay current on all training.

§ Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.

Commitment:

§ Minimum deployment of 2 weeks for national events; travel, lodging, meals covered.

§ Training consists of self-guided online courses blended with instructor-led classes and observation of/participation with local recovery casework team.

Qualifications:

§ Minimum age 18.

§ Ability to cultivate trust-based relationships with assigned clients, maintain confidentiality, and handle time sensitive issues.

§ Prepared to collaborate effectively with others in a disaster environment.

§ Ability to ensure work is conducted in alignment with Red Cross fundamental principles and within established guidelines.

§ Strong written and verbal communication skills along with ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) volunteers needed too!

§ Comfortable working independently and able to maintain flexibility in continuously changing environments.
