Are you looking for a flexible way to make a meaningful difference in your community? Join us as an On-Call Home Delivery Volunteer Driver and help bring groceries directly to homebound neighbors who can’t make it to the food bank. Your time and care will provide nourishment and connection to clients living in and around Pike Place Market.

Please Note: Being an on-call volunteer means you won’t have a regular weekly shift. Instead, we’ll reach out via email or text when one of our regular Friday drivers is unavailable.

Shifts Available:
As needed on Fridays, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Why Join Us?

As an On-Call Home Delivery Driver, you’ll play an essential role in our food access network, delivering groceries to clients who rely on this weekly support. Your presence ensures that our delivery routes stay consistent, even when regular volunteers are out, helping clients receive nutritious food with dignity and reliability.

Your Role:

  • Drive Your Route: Use your own vehicle (even small cars like a Mini Cooper work!) to transport up to 20 grocery bags for two delivery routes.
  • Deliver Groceries: Carry 15-25 lb bags to a designated list of clients in nearby downtown buildings.
  • Pack with Purpose: On delivery mornings, assist with packing produce and perishables, ensuring dietary needs (gluten-free, low-sodium, vegan) are met.
  • Connect with Clients: Be a friendly, familiar face, providing consistent, compassionate service.
  • Communicate Needs: Share updates about client concerns or route changes with our Food Access Coordinator to ensure seamless service.
  • Be Reliable: Maintain punctuality and consistency, contributing to the trust and routine our clients depend on.

You Are:

  • A dependable driver with a vehicle capable of transporting 20 grocery bags.
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license and willing to complete a background check (covered by the food bank).
  • Available on some Fridays between 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and manage a loaded cart across sidewalks.
  • Patient, kind, and respectful when interacting with elderly and homebound clients.
  • Committed to being on call for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Passionate about supporting food access and fostering community connections.

We Provide:

  • Training and route orientation with a knowledgeable staff member.
  • Packing support for dry goods, plus guidance for perishables, the morning of delivery.
  • Ongoing staff support, with a backup partner available when needed.
  • A chance to make a tangible impact-on your schedule.

Mission Statement

In downtown Seattle, the Pike Market Senior Center strives to make each day better and safer for older adults; the Pike Market Food Bank serves people of all ages who face hunger. Together, we provide services, activities, and support that lead to more self sufficient and fulfilling lives.

Description

The Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank is located in the historic Pike Place Market. We have been serving our neighbors in the heart of Seattle since 1978.

The Senior Center serves people age 55 and up. Membership is free and there are no fees for meals, services or regular activities. While people from all walks of life are members of PMSC, we are pioneers in offering senior center programming to elders who are homeless.

The Food Bank serves people of any age, offering free groceries, ready-to-eat food for clients experiencing homelessness, and home delivery for qualified residents of Downtown Seattle. We serve 800 in-person grocery clients weekly and distribute over 300 grocery deliveries.
