About Women's Empowerment

Location:

Mission Statement

Women's Empowerment is a grassroots non-profit organization whose mission is to empower women who are homeless with the confidence and skills necessary to get a job, create a healthy lifestyle and regain a home for themselves and their children. Women's Empowerment is dedicated to ending homelessness one woman at a time.

Description

Homeless women who want to change their lives face many obstacles; personally and in the workplace. They need help securing a safe place to live for themselves and their children, developing basic work skills as well as learning new ways to cope with issues of family violence, substance abuse, and mental illness. Women's Empowerment addresses the special needs of these women who are determined to move from homelessness to self-reliance.

The core of our program is the 9-week session of classes that women attend daily. Four mornings each week (from 9:00am till noon), women attend classes that dovetail our therapeutic empowerment curriculum with our job-readiness curriculum. Women also attend an optional fifth morning for a health and fitness program and two afternoons for parenting and domestic violence groups. Each woman graduates with budding self-confidence, an updated resume, polished interviewing skills, a career plan, a connections to ongoing services in the community, and continual support from us.
