Volunteer Housing Stability Mentor

At Mountain Homeless Coalition, we believe that lasting solutions to homelessness go beyond just housing-they require trust, consistency, and community. A key part of our approach is the ongoing, personalized support we provide to each client as they work toward stable, independent living. That’s where our volunteers come in.

We’re looking for compassionate, reliable individuals to serve as Volunteer Housing Stability Mentors, working one-on-one with clients or households. Volunteers walk alongside clients as they follow their personalized Housing Stability Plan, offering practical help, emotional encouragement, and steady guidance.

Your support might include:

  • Providing transportation to essential appointments (e.g., DMV, Social Security office)

  • Assisting with online searches for housing or employment opportunities

  • Offering reminders and encouragement to help clients stay on track with saving for rent and utilities

  • Simply being a consistent, caring presence who checks in regularly

In many ways, you’ll be a personal coach-someone who believes in the client’s potential and is committed to helping them succeed. If you're looking for a deeply meaningful way to give back and make a tangible difference in someone's life, we’d love to welcome you to our team.

Mission Statement

Our Mission The Mountain Homeless Coalition strives to prevent homelessness for those at risk; to inform, serve and house our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness; and to engage our mountain community as we serve this vulnerable population.

Description

Mountain Homeless Coalition, established seven years ago in the scenic San Bernardino mountains, is dedicated to serving homeless individuals and those at risk of homelessness across communities including Big Bear Lake, Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs, and surrounding mountain towns. We pride ourselves on our deep understanding of local needs and our strong partnerships with both local and county agencies, enabling us to provide comprehensive wraparound services.

Our primary focus lies in securing both interim and permanent housing solutions, aimed at preventing eviction and overcoming barriers to stable housing for our neighbors in need. Despite our modest size, we leverage government and business grants to offer crucial emergency shelter through local motels, rental assistance to prevent evictions due to financial crises, and support for move-in costs such as security deposits and first month's rent for those transitioning out of homelessness.

Critical to our approach is the ongoing support we provide to clients, ensuring they receive consistent guidance and assistance as they work towards achieving housing stability. We continuously seek volunteers to join us in this mission, offering opportunities to make a meaningful impact by walking alongside clients and providing steadfast support throughout their journey.
