Join the Community for Positive Aging’s mission to support older adults and individuals with disabilities living in permanent supportive housing. We offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities from delivering food and offering technology assistance to hosting peer groups and organizing a community clothing closet. Whether you're looking to connect one-on-one with residents, support behind-the-scenes operations, or share a special skill, there's a meaningful way for you to get involved.

Your time, skills, and compassion can help residents maintain housing stability, build community, and access life-sustaining resources. Volunteers play a vital role in fostering trust, dignity, and connection-ensuring that all residents can age in place safely and with support.

Help build community and support housing retention. This volunteer role supports weekly gatherings and one-on-one assistance to help residents maintain benefits, connect with others, and access essential services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support "Coffee and Conversation" programming- a weekly onsite event that promotes connection and builds trust among residents

  • Provide digital literacy and benefit access support (OHP, SNAP, rent portals, etc.)

  • Assist eviction prevention efforts by supporting outreach and engagement

Location: Alder House | 523 SW 13th Ave

Impact: Your presence helps reduce eviction risk and increases resident confidence in navigating systems-fostering stability and belonging in their homes.

About Community for Positive Aging / Hollywood Senior Center

Location:

1820 NE 40th Ave, Portland, OR 97212, US

Mission Statement

Community for Positive Aging is a caring and healthy organization that encourages intergenerational relationships, recognizes the wisdom and experience of its elders, and demonstrates awareness and respect for the aging process. Seniors have access to a full spectrum of services, including social, emotional, educational, and recreational opportunities appropriate to their unique needs and interests. We value, appreciate and encourage the important contributions of older adults in our community and empower people of all ages to achieve happy, healthy aging.

Description

CFPA was founded as Hollywood Senior Center in 1973, a nonprofit committed to creating an uplifting and vibrant environment for adults 55 and older while providing a channel for intergenerational relationships and learning. In July 2021, HSC expanded by absorbing The Giving Tree, another not-for-profit organization, committed to providing residential services to people living in affordable housing, including access to culturally-specific food, throughout Portland; merger of these two organizations form CFPA.
