About Kelly Strayhorn Theater
Location:

Mission Statement
The mission of the Kelly Strayhorn Theater is to bring diverse audiences together by serving as a catalyst for creative expression and the active community engagement. KST serves East Liberty and surrounding neighborhoods through our programming and community engagement strategies, serves as a bridge for the racially and economically diverse East End, and takes a diverse, multidisciplinary, inclusive and international approach to the presentation and understanding of performance arts. KST programs examine the questions that define and inspire us as individuals and communities.
Description
The Kelly-Strayhorn Theater is a unique and vibrant community performance arts center located in the heart of East Liberty, one of Pittsburgh’s most historic neighborhoods. As a moderately-priced, informal, intimate performance venue, the Kelly-Strayhorn was immediately embraced as a warm and welcoming venue for regional artists and arts organizations to establish a presence, try out new work, and build a following in the Pittsburgh arts community. The presence of a viable performing arts center for the East End has allowed for an intensely creative fusion of the energy and focus of the arts with the resolve of a proud community determined to rebuild itself. We have become a significant force in fostering a positive multi-cultural community identity, and have generated an appreciable economic and cultural impact by filling a void in Pittsburgh for a professionally equipped 350-seat multiple-use theater.
Kelly Strayhorn Theater is a multiple arts presenter that encourages diverse and inclusive artistic and cultural programming, contributing to cultural understanding, quality of life, and economic development in our community. We do so through a commitment to emerging artists, diversity, and contemporary performance. With both a 350-seat performing arts venue and The Alloy Studios, KST serves as an artistic home for Pittsburgh’s small and mid-sized arts and cultural organizations.
