McLaren Hospice is looking for dedicated Veterans who would like to make a difference in the lives of patients that are being faced with advanced illness. Training is provided and no medical experience is necessary.
The Veteran Volunteer program aims to pair Veteran Volunteers with hospice patients that have been identified as Veterans. We are looking for veterans that may have shared experiences and a unique ability to identify with patients who are also veterans.
Services may include:
- Friendly visits with patient and/or family
- Listening to patient reminisce, and company keeping for those who may not otherwise have it
- Reading to patient
- Respite support for caregiver by sitting with patient so that families may take a break
- Assisting with running errands, letter writing, and other needs
- Veterans Pinning and honoring
- Veterans Events assistance (Memorial Day/ Veterans Day, Ect.)
