Handing over a bag

Have fun volunteering! Help make 400+ care bags for families who are bedside at the hospital with an infant or child undergoing treatment for a life-threatening illness. Your support and participation helps families know that they are cared for during the difficult journey of a medical crisis.

This group service activity is made possible by the generosity and leadership of Junior League of Palo Alto * Mid Peninsula. All supplies for the care bags (~ 5,000 items) purchased using grant funds received from the Junior League.

Not required: Volunteer Application, Volunteer Training, or Background Check.

Who? We welcome new volunteers to come with their family, friends, neighbors, faith/community group members, students, and colleagues. Individuals under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

What? We’ll make Father’s Day Bags, Cleaning Product Bags and Easy Meal Care Bags.

When? Sunday, May 18 th, 2025

1:00pm - 2:00pm; 2:00pm - 3:00pm; 3:00pm - 4:00pm; 4:00pm - 5:00pm.

Volunteer for one hour, two hours or the whole session - the choice is yours!

Where? There With Care, 2682 Middlefield Road, Suite H, Redwood City, CA 94063. Free parking is available in front of the office building.

Why? Families often do not have the time, resources, or energy to celebrate holiday days and special occasions. When a dad receives the gift of a Father's Day Bag it helps them remember that they are cared for and special during a difficult and challenging time. Cleaning Product Bags support families maintain home hygiene and cleanliness and help to protect their child in the hospital from germs that may weaken their immune system, which is often compromised. Easy Meal Care Bags contain a variety of non-perishable easy-to-prepare foods and snacks that family members can conveniently keep in the hospital room. When a family receives an Easy Meal Care Bag, family members spend less time focused on food and more time being with their sick child.

Mission Statement

The mission of There With Care is to provide a wide range of meaningful and fundamental services to families and children during the critical phase of a medical crisis. We serve families referred by medical agencies, by building a network of services and people who ease the burden of life's day-to-day obligations with compassion and care.

Description

The Bay Area Chapter was created in 2011, seven years after the founding chapter opened in Colorado. There With Care receives referrals from medical social workers at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Mission Bay, San Francisco. When a family receives a medical diagnosis of critical illness for their child, There With Care connects with the family and engages community members and organizations to volunteer to help ease the stress of their day-to-day life activities.

For information on the experiences of families and children facing critical illness; There With Care's programs and services, and ways to participate and support families, please visit our website: therewithcare.org (Select the "Bay Area" location.
