Located in Ulster County, NY Minnewaska State Park Preserve is situated on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain ridge, which rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rugged, rocky terrain. The park features numerous waterfalls, three crystalline sky lakes, dense hardwood forests, incising sheer cliffs and ledges opening to beautiful views, clear streams cut into valleys,

Minnewaska State Park Preserve sees between 500,000 and 600,000 visitors annually. At Morgan Duke Conservation Society, our volunteers assist the park staff and rangers in keeping Minnewaska State Park Preserve free from litter.

Volunteers work independently to clean up and remove litter from the most popular trails in the Lake Minnewaska Area. Litter Patrol Volunteers may focus on a specific trail section or volunteer while exploring various areas of the park including the visitor center.

Volunteers are supplied with Orange Bags, Trash Picker Uppers, and Gloves available at the visitor center. They are also covered under workers' compensation. Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer at their own convenience on a self-guided, flexible schedule. It is recommended to also check on the park after major holidays such as Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer with the Morgan Duke Conservation Society, including individuals and students. All kinds of groups, such as businesses, Scouts, and 4-H groups, are more than welcome to volunteer for the day or a few times a year. No skills or experience are required.
