Join us as we celebrate a historic moment for youth sports in Compton - the official Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Opening of the brand-new cricket pitch at Kelly Park! This exciting event marks the launch of a long-awaited recreational space developed in partnership with the City of Compton Parks and Recreation and the Southern California Junior Cricket Academy (SCJCA).
This community celebration will feature:
* A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony
* Live cricket demonstrations
* Youth performances & guest speakers
* Food & beverage vendors
* Family-friendly activities
* Community partner booths
The event will bring together youth, families, city officials, and local organizations to highlight the importance of access to diverse sports like cricket and the growing impact of youth programming in Compton.

About Southern California Junior Cricket Academy (SCJCA):
The Southern California Junior Cricket Academy (SCJCA) is a youth-centered sports and enrichment organization dedicated to introducing, developing, and promoting the game of cricket to young people across Southern California. Rooted in the values of teamwork, discipline, and personal growth, SCJCA provides year-round programming that combines athletic development with educational and character-building experiences.
Our mission is to create access and opportunities for youth-particularly in underrepresented communities-to engage in cricket as both a sport and a pathway to leadership. Through seasonal camps, after-school programs, tournaments, and community events, we foster physical activity, cultural appreciation, and lifelong skills.
With a special focus on girls’ and women’s participation, SCJCA also integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) enrichment, mentorship, and wellness workshops into its offerings-encouraging holistic development both on and off the field.
SCJCA is proud to partner with local schools, parks, recreation departments, and youth-serving organizations to make cricket a vibrant and inclusive part of Southern California’s youth sports landscape.
