Become an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Volunteer and serve with the Massachusetts General Hospital - You must be age 55 or over.

The patient escort desk is located in the main lobby of the hospital. Annually, over 48,000 requests are managed by our patient escort desk. Working as part of a team consisting of the Information Associates, Wayfinders, and Greeters, we strive to provide a higher level of customer service as we help patients and family members navigate MGH.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Welcome and greet visitors, patients, and family members with a smile and eye contact as they enter the main lobbies.
  • To seek out any lost visitors, patients, and family members and accompany them to their destination.
  • To assist in the discharging of patients from the hospital in a courteous manner.
  • To assist in escorting and transporting patients to their appointments.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to push patients in a wheelchair, both on flat & inclined surfaces.
  • Ability to walk and stand throughout the entire shift.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and welcome visitors, patients, and family members with a smile and eye contact as they enter the hospital.
  • In keeping with your commitment to our patients, be constantly available to serve our patients, visitors and family members.
  • Provide a quick response to MGH Beacon requests from inpatient units and outpatient practices.
  • Identify the proper patient using the two-item identifier.
  • When completing a discharge, always stay with patients while awaiting departure vehicle.
  • Retrieve empty wheelchairs and distribute as instructed.
  • Assist information desk staff with meeting the needs of visitors and patients of the hospital.

Uplift, Inspire, Lend a Hand! Our mission is to enhance your life with meaningful programs, resources, and connections so we can live and age strong in Boston together. We have many designations. As a Commission, Council on Aging, and Area Agency on Aging, we are not new to aging. We have been doing this for more than 50 years - Age with us.

Age Strong is looking for volunteers to invest their unique talents in improving their community - You choose the amount of time you wish to serve. We are recruiting for the following opportunities:

  • Visiting and assisting homebound and frail seniors with daily living tasks.
  • Supporting adults ESL in conversation sessions, one-on-one, or in ESL classes.
  • Assembling and distributing food at a local Food Pantry.
  • Delivering food to a homebound older adult.
  • Facilitating workshops on Opioid Education & Prevention and Money Smart for Older Adults.
  • Museums & Hospitals
  • Provides a welcoming and friendly environment to all City Hall visitors.
