ORGANIZATION: STEM HEADS

Our program is designed to guide 1st through 8th grade students in various activities rooted in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The 7-week STEM camp is divided into four sessions beginning June 9th and concluding on July 25th. Field Professionals, Educators, and Volunteers come together to inspire and foster a love for STEM among young learners in New Orleans by providing hands-on experiences and interactive learning opportunities! The curriculum guides students through exploration of various topics such as:

 AI Fundamentals: Introducing students to the basics of artificial intelligence and its applications.

 Biotechnology: Exploring the principles of biotechnology and its impact on healthcare and the environment.

 Chemistry: Offering insights into energy flow and conducting exciting experiments, including a fireworks demonstration.

 Robotics: Guiding young creators into the world of purposeful engineering and coding.

 Kitchen Chemistry: Encouraging lab safety and healthy ingredient selection through fun recipes preparations (of food/candy, cosmetics, and more).

 Intro to Toxicology: Understanding the effects of chemicals on human, pet, and environmental health and safety.

Mission Statement

STEM Heads is an organization based in New Orleans, Louisiana. We aim to empower kids, youth, and teens and engage K-12 students in STEM by offering various programs and initiatives that involve learning opportunities and career pathway exploration for underrepresented communities.

Description

STEM Heads was founded in 2022 by Shelia Pugh Bishop, a Research Biochemist and STEM advocate. The organization provides students with hands-on learning opportunities to expose them to STEM concepts, skills, and career pathways.

Our is to increase K12 student access to quality STEM education, encourage student interest and participation in STEM fields, and ultimately to support and empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue STEM careers and contribute to the future of innovation and technological advancement. We aim to cultivate a world-class Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce through our event and workshop offerings, which is an essential step for preserving excellence globally in STEM fields.

  • In order to volunteer with STEM Heads, applicants must be a U.S. citizen. Volunteers can choose to come for a day, week, session, or the entire summer. Please, schedule a time to discuss the opportunity. We can't want to meet you.
