The Durham Center for Senior Life's Development Department is looking for volunteers to support our mission of empowering older adults to lead healthy, active, and independent lives through marketing and philanthropy efforts. Through varied projects, community engagement, and creativity, you can make a difference at DCSL!
Some of the tasks and projects you would work on include but are not limited to:
Digital Archiving: Create and maintain a digital folder structure for long-term storage and sharing
Content Creation : Write blog posts, assist with TikTok and Facebook accounts, or draft email newsletters
Market Research : Identify potential audiences, partners, hashtags, or relevant trends
Community Outreach : Connect with local organizations or individuals to identify needs and establish partnerships
Fundraising Support : Help organize crowdfunding campaigns or small local fundraising events
Resource Distribution : Distribute donated items or resources to beneficiaries in the community
Attendee Engagement : Manage registrations, welcome participants, and provide support during events
Post-Event Follow-Up : Gather feedback, share event highlights, and ensure proper documentation for future reference
The hours and days for this opportunity are flexible, with some projects on site and others that are able to be completed at home. The center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm and an initial on-site training will be required before beginning to volunteer.

About Durham Center for Senior life
The Center is a private, non-profit, tax-exempt agency, governed by a Board of Directors. The stated goal of the agency is to foster a comprehensive array of services accessible and acceptable to older adults (60+) living in Durham. In 1968, the name was officially changed to Coordinating Council for Senior Citizens. In 2006 the agency moved in to its current location at 406 Rigsbee and is now known as Durham Center for Senior Life.
Programs/Services
Key programs at the Council for Senior Citizens are:
1) Social and Senior Center Services, 2) Congregate Nutrition and 3) Adult Day Health Services 4.) Transportation
Social and Senior Center Services
Programs include: 1) Senior Centers; 2) Health Promotion (including education, exercise, screening,); 3) Transportation; 4) Information and Case Assistance; 5) Caregiver Support Services and 6) Adult Day Services.
Congregate Nutrition
Durham Center for Senior Life ensures that Durham's older adults, who often eat poorly due to isolation, physical, or emotional problems; have access to at least one balanced meal five days per week. There are 3 congregate nutrition sites throughout Durham.
Adult Day Health Services
Provides a safe alternative to more costly institutional care for those older adults who need supervision at all times.
