Are you a compassionate, adaptable individual ready to support communities during times of disaster? Step into a critical frontline role as a Sheltering Service Associate with the American Red Cross and help ensure comfort and care for those affected by emergencies.

What You’ll Do:

As a Sheltering Service Associate, you'll be part of a dedicated team that keeps Red Cross shelters running smoothly before, during, and after disasters. From offering a warm welcome to assisting with meals and sleeping arrangements, your presence makes a difference in moments that matter most.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct support to shelter clients through reception, registration, feeding, dormitory setup, and information areas

  • Deliver excellent customer service with empathy and cultural sensitivity

  • Work as part of a team under the guidance of a shelter supervisor

  • Support day-to-day shelter operations and adapt to evolving needs

  • Assist with basic supply and resource tracking to keep shelters functional

  • Complete required Red Cross shelter training (approx. 3.5 hours online)

What We’re Looking For:
  • Willingness to volunteer in person before, during, or after a disaster

  • Ability to work in dynamic, changing environments

  • Comfort interacting with people from diverse backgrounds experiencing crisis

  • Team players ready to follow guidance and contribute meaningfully

  • Minimum 16 years of age

  • Valid driver’s license (required for deployments outside your region)

  • Available to work shifts on consecutive days (4-12 hours per shift)

  • Must complete required online training prior to deployment
