From the magical transformation of caterpillars into butterflies soaring through the sky, to the mystery behind why some bugs have stingers, we’ll explore the fascinating secrets of our insect friends during our Brilliant Russell Woods Insect Discovery Day. Through the study of insects and their vital roles in ecosystems, Brilliant Detroit offers hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity, promote creativity, and inspire environmental stewardship in the changemakers of our future.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to:
- Nurture children’s curiosity by guiding explorations of unique insect anatomy
Share knowledge about how bugs support our food systems and the environment
Lead fun, hands-on experiments and critical thinking activities that inspire a lifelong love for bug science in the whole family

Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with children 0-8 have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable. We do this by providing proven programming and support year-round out of Brilliant Detroit homes in high-need neighborhoods.
