Help Us Expand Our Impact at the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment!

We’re seeking passionate volunteers to help optimize our search engine presence and convert website visitors into engaged supporters. We’re working with a $10K Google Ads budget that needs to be bugeted smartly. If you have experience in SEO and a love for preserving and showcasing video games and digital art, we’d love to have you on board. Help us make a greater impact and connect with our community in meaningful ways!

Why This Matters

The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment is located in the heart of Oakland right next to the Oakland Convention Center. It has served dozens of schools and thousands of visitors from around the world with its all-playable video-game collection and its historic and educational interpretation.

All of these visitors benefit from the wealth of cultural, technical, and creative inspiration that games provide. Students can study the creative application of physics from analyzing Mario's jump, trigonometric functions by analyzing a walk cycle in a 3D game, and anatomy by studying sprites in Street Fighter II. And who better to study alongside than experts coming from VFX, games, and academia!

And, in the city of Oakland, there is a great need for what the museum offers. More than 50% of students within the Oakland Unified School District live in a household where a foreign language is spoken, over 30% live in an overcrowded household, and 70% of schools have 70% or more students who qualify for free lunch. Despite the great wealth brought to the Bay Area through the technology industry, many students here have significant barriers in taking advantage of it.

Where You Come In

So, we have need, demand, and supply! What we're missing is general awareness. We want everyone to know what's going on behind these walls, and we're very aware that we're not hitting our potential by fully utilizing our Google Ad Grants!

Imagine the lives we can change by connecting passionate individuals into our community and giving them a platform to show their games and digital creations through our Friday Showcase. Think of the international students who will be able to better connect their technology culture with the technology culture of the Bay Area, springing up new ideas and personal connections that will last a lifetime. Envision a packed museum full of kids and families having fun while refining their own personal tastes to build the cities, experiences, and art of tomorrow. And, most importantly, think about every 8 to 13 year old student who grows up in struggle but finds their voice through video game development in our free Saturday morning classes.

Our mission is to inspire the next generation of digital creators through playable preservation, and we need your help to do this!

About The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment

Location:

921 Washington Street, Oakland, CA 94607, US

Mission Statement

The MADE works to uphold the history of Games and Digital Art through playable preservation. We want to inspire and educate future game developers and artists by creating a safe space for our community to grow.

Description

Digital entertainment, unlike many other art forms, requires interaction to be understood. Discussing games without playing them robs participants of the opportunity to directly feel the impact of design decisions. To that end, we try to make everything in our museum playable.
In an increasingly digital world, methods of communication are expanding dramatically. Temporal media can be shared across the world in a matter of clicks. Increasingly, the creation of interactive media as a form of self-expression is becoming not only ubiquitous, but a necessity to convey information clearly and concisely.
To that end, we work to go beyond traditional history pedagogy; everyone should be able to experience history. We believe that every child should be able to connect to their digital heritage viscerally while learning the skills to critically assess and create it.
The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment is a 501c(3) physical community space where digital entertainment artifacts are stored and exhibited in playable form for the purposes of education and entertainment.
Over more than a decade, the MADE has sought to legitimize the preservation of video games as a historic, cultural, and artistic medium within the context of our time. Visitors to the MADE have access to play any of our collection of over 14,000 games across 40+ systems, on-demand. Through exhibitions, events, and exposition, these games are exposed as works of art, with the processes behind their creation brought to light for the first time in a true, interactive, museum setting.
