The Co-Chair of the Medical Committee of Papayago Rescue House helps PRH fulfill its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome birds, and strengthen the relationship between them and their human companions through the important work of overseeing medical and husbandry care of the
individuals and flock. A high level of professionalism, flexibility, enthusiasm, project management, organizational skills, and attention to detail is required.
Position Requirements
● Supervision of supplement and medication administration
o Training of volunteers to give supplements and medication
● Lead a team of volunteers, including pre-vet and medical students, to accomplish medical goals
o Including: Zoom meetings to present updates, goals, and requests
● Training of volunteers in:
o Nail trims
o Beak trims
o Proper handling techniques
o Gram stains
● Develop a working relationship with vets associated with the rescue
o Follow up on vet visits
o Develop a medical action plan for each parrot
o Calendar of vetting to match action plans
● Before adoption, ensure that:
o Each parrot has been examined by a vet within a year
o Each parrot has had blood work in the last year
o Each parrot, unless it is a parakeet, has been nano-chipped
● Maintenance of parrots
o Nail trims
o Beak trims
o Weight checks
● Disease Testing
o Preferably, before they are surrendered to the rescue
● Each bird has an intake form
● Test results, blood work, action plans, photos, and medical notes into the correct folders (online and off)
● Comply with applicable legal, regulatory, ethical code of business ethics and conduct, and other PRH compliance requirements.
● Ability to identify and prioritize workload
● Ability to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies, or report to the ED concerning any risks in writing. ● Work with Cobb County Animal Services to provide no-cost nano-chipping to Cobb County residents
● Reporting on KPI’s
Qualifications Needed:
● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
● High levels of judgment, discretion, tact, courtesy, integrity, and work ethic.
● Computer skills, using Google Tools, Canva
● Ability to manage multiple priorities.
● Safety is of the highest priority to PRH, and any programs must not endanger the people or the birds of PRH.
● Well-versed with PRH's mission, goals, and programs.
● Willing to learn about avian medicine, including but not limited to: Holding for blood work, giving medications, dosing medications, doing nail trims, beak trims, and gram stains.
● The ideal candidate will have a passion for caring for parrots and have a strong desire to become a medical advocate for birds. General weekly availability:
● This is an in-person position
● Minimum required hours are 15 hours per week
● General ability during training is from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday through Friday
○ After initial training, time availability increases to 8:30 am
Dress Code:
● Closed-toed shoes are required
● No perfume, cologne, or scented products
● No dangling jewelry
● During events, PRH will provide a shirt or polo to wear with the PRH logo

Mission Statement
Papayago Rescue House, Inc. will exist to support the well-being and maintenance of exotic birds, namely parrots, and their people families that require intervention and/or support services to thrive. Papayago Rescue House, Inc. will act in a not-for-profit manner to target parrots for rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing. To better serve the 3rd largest pet community in the world, we will work with bird owners to increase their knowledge, provide mentoring and training to coping with parrot ownership to lessen the need for parrot owners to give up their birds. The community will be better supported to maintain the birds in their care to reduce how often birds are re-homed or placed in community facilities not equipped to handle bird requirements and behavior.
