Rehumanising the World

Bridging Beyond is a rapidly growing organisation driven by the energy, expertise, and creativity of our volunteers. We are committed to reducing division and building empathy in diverse communities through workshops, research, outreach, and strategic initiatives.

As a Psychology Professional, you will bring valuable psychological insights to our programs, helping shape how we design, implement, and evaluate activities. Volunteers at Bridging Beyond don’t just do the work-they also lead and transform the organisation, ensuring our mission and methods remain grounded in evidence-based practice.

In this role you may be called upon to do the following-

  • Offer Psychological Expertise - Provide guidance on empathy-building, conflict resolution, and mental well-being within Bridging Beyond’s projects and training sessions.

  • Contribute to Program Design - Help develop or refine program content to ensure it integrates key psychological principles and best practices for fostering understanding and positive group dynamics.

  • Consult and Collaborate - Work closely with volunteers, staff members, trustees, workshop facilitators, and other teams to address participant needs, shape learning outcomes, and enhance overall program effectiveness.

  • Support Organisational Growth - Suggest innovative ways Bridging Beyond can broaden its impact based on psychological research or emerging trends in mental health and community engagement.

  • Flex and Evolve - Specific responsibilities will be determined in consultation with you, aligning our organisational needs with your professional interests and expertise. As Bridging Beyond grows, so can your role.

Personal Skills and Attributes-

  • Formal Psychology Background - Master’s degree, PhD, or comparable professional experience in psychology, counselling, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of Evidence-Based Methods - Familiarity with psychological theories and interventions relevant to empathy-building, conflict resolution, or group dynamics.

  • Collaborative Mindset - Willingness to work with people from varied backgrounds, combining your expertise with insights from other disciplines.

  • Flexible & Adaptive - Ready to shape and adjust responsibilities as Bridging Beyond evolves, responding to new challenges and opportunities.

  • Ethical and Person-Centered Approach - Commitment to ethical practice and respect for participants’ well-being, privacy, and diverse perspectives.

How can you help support this work?

  • Flexible Engagement - Time commitments may vary based on upcoming programs or projects. We’ll discuss your availability to ensure a sustainable approach that meets both your schedule and Bridging Beyond’s needs.

  • Passion & Leadership - Go beyond providing expertise-share ideas, lead initiatives, and champion new directions in how Bridging Beyond applies psychological insights.

  • Team Communication - Stay connected with relevant volunteers or project leads, participating in online or in-person discussions, and providing feedback on key milestones.

  • Evolving Role - As Bridging Beyond grows, additional opportunities may arise for mentoring, advanced research collaborations, or broader organisational leadership.

About Bridging Beyond

Location:

Newington Green Alliance, 128 City Road, London, Greater London EC1V2NX, GB

Mission Statement

We cultivate empathy and understanding across differences.

Description

Our vision
Our vision is to help people live more connected, satisfying, caring lives in community.

Our strategy
To achieve our bold goals, we approach 'bridging’ with a scientific point of view. Our methods are rooted in research showing that empathy is a key driver of social cohesion and trust. By fostering active listening, curiosity, and compassionate dialogue, we help individuals and groups challenge biases, reduce conflict, and build bridges across divides.

Based on the findings of our research team, we have developed a series of workshops with specific methodologies towards building empathy. We are offering these workshops together with strategic partners in different communities based in the London boroughs of Hackney and Islington.
