Kuwohi is one of the most visited destinations in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, drawing more than 650,000 visitors each year. Standing at 6,643 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in Tennessee and ranks as the third-tallest summit east of the Mississippi River.
Major Duties
· Volunteers may be positioned at the tower, tower trail, bulletin board area, sidewalks and viewing area.
· Volunteer will greet Park visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
· Volunteer will provide information to visitors as needed regarding remaining on established trails and in established viewing areas; resource information; littering; as well as information about not feeding and approaching wildlife. Many park visitors are not aware of park regulations. The role of the volunteer is to inform park visitors about regulations in a respectful, courteous manner. The volunteer is NOT responsible for ensuring that visitors comply with regulations.
· Volunteers may upon request assist other divisions in times of emergencies.
Knowledge and skills required:
· Must have the ability to work independently when required.
· Must have skills in oral communications with co-workers, Association staff and especially in dealing with the public.
· Be able to communicate in written form when required.
· Ability to acquire knowledge of the natural and cultural history of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and its significance.
