ORGANIZATION: Satellite Affordable Housing Associates

In December 2012, Satellite Housing and Affordable Housing Associates merged to create SAHA, an organization committed to providing quality, service-enriched, affordable housing to East Bay residents.

SAHA is currently seeking a on-going volunteer to help with our on-site food distribution program. Distribution happens every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 8:30am-10:30am. Sign up for individual or multiple shifts. The volunteers closely with SAHA’s staff to help sort donations from and organize produce for resident to choose from.

Primary Duties:

  • Help unload donated food from truck to the site's community room
  • Organize food for residents to select their produce
  • Disinfect work station before and after each shift
  • Light janitorial tasks to help put back the community room at the end of each shift as needed

Abilities and Attributes:

  • Commitment to following food safety guidelines.
  • Reliability, punctuality, accountability.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

Requirements: Ongoing SAHA Community Volunteers must commit to volunteer for a minimum of 4 months, and must complete a volunteer orientation (25min. video & short quiz), and volunteer forms prior to beginning their placement. Volunteers are required to log volunteer hours after each shift.

Description

The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
