Position Overview: The GIS Office Assistant will support the Park GIS Specialist in various in-person administrative tasks in the Resources building at Park Headquarters. Tasks are related to the organization and digitization of historic and current cartographic materials. This role is ideal for individuals seeking to gain hands-on experience in GIS and related fields.


Key Responsibilities:

-Organize historic and current maps, ensuring proper cataloging and storage of hard copies of aerial photos.

-Assist in scanning and digitizing historic maps and aerial photographs for preservation and accessibility.

-Collaborate with the GIS Specialist on various projects, providing support as needed.


Minimum requirements

-There is no minimum time commitment.

-There is no minimum age requirement.

-There is no uniform requirement.

-No geospatial experience required.

-The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., boxes and collection items up to 50 pounds) must be lifted or moved on a routine basis.

-Most of the work is performed in an office environment. Occasional work with dusty material may require the use of dust masks and gloves.


Learning Opportunities:

-Access to free geospatial training sessions, including Esri GIS products, photogrammetry, CAD, and cartography.

-Opportunities to obtain certificates through training for volunteers with a PIV card.

-Gain knowledge about the history of the park and its cartographic products through hands-on experience.


This position offers valuable insight into GIS operations and a chance to contribute to meaningful projects within the park.
