Position & Responsibilities
Role Summary
Youth & Family Worker Interns in the Safe Journeys Housing program work alongside staff at Tubman East in Maplewood to serve youth and young adults of all genders between the ages of 16-24 (as well as their children) who have experienced various forms of violence, exploitation, or homelessness.

resilience within youth

Position Responsibilities
* Build trusting relationships and provide comprehensive support, data, resources, and mentorship while maintaining confidentiality and upholding professional boundaries
* Promote healing through creating a positive environment and providing a variety of activities
and groups to support goals
* Support youth while following agency guidelines to administer safety planning, crisis
intervention, resource connection, recreation, school, and planning for self-identified goals
* Communicate and collaborate with supervisor and team to provide coordinated services

Qualifications & Expectations
Position Qualifications:
* Experience and interest in working with youth and young adults
* Ability to engage and build meaningful relationships with diverse youth, parents, and families
* Understanding of and ability to implement interventions to support complex trauma
* Ability to communicate with diverse groups and people skills, including ability to remain
grounded and person-focused during challenging situations
* Ability to foster an inclusive and responsive environment that promotes healing, meaningful
relationships and goal attainment

Time Commitment & Availability
* Flexible weekday schedule with hours from late mornings through evenings available
* Commit to 10-20 hours per week for a minimum of nine months

Supervision & Training
* Attend Tubman’s Intern/Volunteer Orientation and Training series
* Supervision provided by the Community Housing Manager

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
