Overview of Position : Carry out the monthly Poz Café luncheon by helping set up, put on and take down the event.
Benefits to the Volunteer: The opportunity to work directly with CarePartners and members of various faith communities and other community sponsoring groups in a warm, caring, and accepting atmosphere.
Specific Tasks:
Serve at Poz Café in one or more of the following areas:
- Table Setting & Clearing : Set up and arrange tables and chairs (if physically able); and set all tables with linens, dining items, and centerpieces. "Bus" tables throughout lunch by refilling drink pitchers and clearing and scraping empty plates.
- Serving Line : Plate food in the kitchen serving line; serve the meal to all attendees via table service; and pack any leftovers in to-go boxes for CarePartners to take home, and wash dishes.
- CarePackage Area : Distribute CarePackages as CarePartners leave Poz Café; and maintain accurate records of CarePackage distribution.
- Sign-In Table : Set up paperwork and nametag stations; welcome and sign in CarePartners and their guests; refer attendees to Link Specialist volunteers when paperwork is needed; and maintain accurate records of attendees.
- Outside Greeter : Greet CarePartners and guests arriving at Poz Café and be prepared to answer questions and provide directions. Ensure there is no littering on the church grounds and no smoking outside of the designated smoking area.
- Bingo & Raffle Area : Arrange donated bingo and raffle prizes into an attractive display; pass out bingo cards to all attendees; verify winning bingo cards; help pace the bingo calling; and oversee prize selection.
- Emcee : Introduce the monthly sponsoring groups and clergy members who are present; and make announcements. Help lead bingo and the raffles when needed. Monitor music volume throughout the day.
- All volunteers help with clean-up.
Time Required: The third Thursday of every month, from 9:00am to 2:00pm (except where otherwise noted for certain roles above). Note - The December Poz Café is an evening dinner and is not always on the third Thursday of December.
Qualifications/Experience:
Preferred: Experience in the dining and/or catering industry. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability to lead a small group of volunteers from diverse backgrounds with a friendly and patient disposition. Experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS.
Required: Must be 18 years or older. Good people/communication skills. Comfortable interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to consistently follow instructions in a fast-paced environment.
