About the Program
TAP 1 is a 2-year mentorship program for 7th and 8th graders to help them build strong art portfolios, prepare for high school applications, and increase their creative and social-emotional skills. We’re seeking dedicated Volunteer Mentors to guide students 1:1 in honing their artistic skills and discovering their potential.
As a TAP 1 Mentor, You Will:
Guide a Young Artist: Help a 7th-8th grade student create an 8-piece portfolio for high school applications.
Foster Growth: Support students in developing confidence, creativity, and social-emotional skills.
Engage in the Arts Community: Join students on gallery and studio visits to explore NYC’s vibrant art scene.
Receive Training & Support: Access resources and
ongoing mentorship training.
Who We’re Looking For:
Artistic Background: BFA, MFA, or a dedicated creative/studio practice.
Youth Experience: Prior experience working with students and a passion for mentorship.
Commitment: 2-year commitment, meeting 1-2 per month during the academic year (1-2 hour sessions). Summer meetings optional but encouraged.
Location: must be able to meet in NYC
Key Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and enthusiasm for youth development.
