Road Sign Maintenance Volunteer
The Ocala National Forest is seeking a road sign maintenance volunteer. The job is to place road signs for the Level 3/4/5 forest roads, clear brush from around signs, and remove minor tree debris if they are blocking roads. Volunteers will in turn occupy a full hook-up site on the forest free of charge.
Duties
· Survey what signs are needed
· Assemble road signs
· Install signs
· Clear brush and minor tree removal
· Track weekly work accomplished
· Provide work schedule monthly to Engineering for signature
· Maintain Truck log and turn in to Engineering monthly
· Keep track of Inventory of signs, posts, and hardware
Skills Required
This position involves physically demanding field work at times and requires that the volunteer work in a variety of weather conditions (extreme hot, cold, rain, etc.). Must be able to lift 25-30lbs overhead.
Must have valid driver's license
Ability to comprehend basic sign plans, understand measurements, have a basic working knowledge of hand tools and maintenance, and follow written instructions
Experience with using GPS or mapping software would be beneficial but not required
Volunteers must have a friendly, helpful manner and enjoy dealing with a variety of people. They should have some familiarity with the recreation facilities of the forest and be able to share this basic knowledge with visitors. Good communication skills, tactfulness, and patience are important. The volunteers must abide by the "Standards for Ethics and Conduct" for Forest Service
*Lodging is not provided. Volunteer must provide lodging (ie. travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome)*
