Volunteer Arts & Crafts Instructor
Location: Grace House - St. Leonard’s Ministries, Chicago, IL
Commitment: 1-2 days per week | 2-4 hours per week
St. Leonard’s Ministries empowers formerly incarcerated individuals to lead whole, productive lives. One of our core programs, Grace House, has been a vital part of that mission for over 30 years. Grace House is a transitional residential home for women-up to 16 at a time-who are rebuilding their lives after incarceration. It is a safe space for all who identify as women, and a sisterhood rooted in health, positivity, and love.
We are seeking a Volunteer Arts & Crafts Instructor to facilitate workshops at Grace House. This role is ideal for someone who loves creating, believes in the power of art to heal and connect, and is committed to serving women navigating re-entry.
The ideal volunteer has experience with:
- Leading arts and crafts classes for adults or mixed age groups
- Creating a space that empowers women to express themselves freely-without judgment or fear
- Techniques such as painting, drawing, sculpting, mixed media, textile arts, collage, and DIY crafts
- Supporting participants at all skill levels in a positive, encouraging way
- Managing classroom materials and maintaining a safe, welcoming creative space
Skills and mediums we love:
- Painting (acrylic, watercolor, etc.)
- Drawing (graphite, charcoal, ink, markers)
- Sculpting (clay, paper mache, wood)
- Crafting (collage, decoupage, vision boards, textile arts)
- Mixed media
Workshops will be held 1-2 times a week for 2-4 hours. We’re looking for someone who brings both creativity and compassion-someone who can help cultivate confidence and expression through hands-on artistic experiences.
Why this matters:
Art creates space for healing. It brings people together. At Grace House, it’s another way for our residents to reconnect with themselves, tell their stories, and build community. If you’re an artist or crafter with a heart for volunteerism and a passion for empowering women, we’d love to hear from you.
