ORGANIZATION: Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group

Join Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group on the King County Parks-owned Middle Beat Creek Natural Area to restore salmon habitat! Come learn about the vibrant riparian ecosystems in our urban backyard!

We will spend the day clearing invasise weeds from the creek shoreline and forest understory to create a healthy riparian habitat. Bear Creek and Monticello Creek flow through this small forest, and their confluence is on site. Confluences are very important areas where waterways meet. For salmon, they provide access to spawning grounds and are sources of cold water they need.

Mid Sound helped to replanted the understory of this riparian forest in the witnter of 2025, and now we need help clearing invasive weeds like Himalayan Blackberry to support the establishment of these new native plants.

Upon signing up you will receive a confirmation email. On the Wednesday before the event (5/14/2025) you will recive an email with details on site access, schedule, and saftey infomation.

***If you are under 18 and attending without a parent/ guardian and this is your first Mid Sound event you've volunteered at, please print and fill out the King County Parks Youth Waiver Form attached to the confirmation email and bring it with you to the event!***

Mission Statement

Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group works to involve local people in projects that will ensure a future for wild salmon.

Description

Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is dedicated to helping landowners and communities protect their local fish. We practice fisheries and stream restoration in the King and Kitsap Counties in Washington State. Our service area includes the Green/Duwamish River watershed, the Lake Washington/Cedar River watershed, isolated streams flowing into Puget Sound in King County, and all watersheds in eastern Kitsap County. We use habitat restoration projects - such as streamside fencing, native tree planting, and fish passage improvements - as catalysts to building community partnerships. As one of 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State, we are part of a coordinated effort to restore fish habitat in the state.
