We are excited to invite people to become volunteers at Kapwa Cafe, which is the social enterprise supporting Kapwa Kultural Center by offering boba with a purpose! We believe in creating a vibrant and inclusive space, while offering delicious boba tea and amplifying Filipina/x/o culture and building connections with the wider BIPOC communities in Daly City, California.

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about community service, shared connections through art + culture, and boba tea! As a volunteer, you’ll be playing an essential role in helping us serve the community and create an impactful soft opening for our cafe.

We’re offering flexible shifts that range from setup to customer service, and you’ll receive hands-on experience about the business of boba (with a purpose) and making meaningful connections. We invite people to either take individual shifts on specific days or times, but would greatly appreciate it if volunteers would consider being a recurring volunteer once we start offering boba May 30th and opportunities will continue through June 20th (after that, we have interns coming aboard). Kapwa Cafe will be open 2 days a week during that time period.

Mission Statement

The mission of Kapwa Kultural Center & Cafe (KKC) is to empower Filipina/x/o youth through culturally affirming programming that combines leadership skills, workforce preparedness, entrepreneurial mentorship, ethnic studies, holistic healing practices, and mental health education.

Description

Kapwa Kultural Center is funded by the state’s Mental Health Services Act Innovation Program to develop innovative and holistic supports for Daly City youth and community through programming that is culturally affirming and promotes mental well-being. KKC focuses on providing holistic, culturally responsive behavioral health services to at-risk
Filipino/a/x youth, ages 16-24 years old. The youth programming focuses on leadership development, mental health education, ethnic studies, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship exploration. While this core program is for youth, anyone can visit the community center which will offer culturally affirming activities, workshops, and events to a broader intergenerational audience -- including young children, families, and senior citizens.
