The Girls on the Run 5K run/walk is a unique, end-of-season event that brings together Girls on the Run program participants, their families, and community members for a celebratory 5K. Our 5K requires over 100 volunteers to be a success. We have a role for everyone who would like to volunteer!

Below are our highest-needed roles (listed in order of start time):

Saturday, May 31 - Parking Attendant (7:00 - 9:30am): you’ll direct traffic, guide cars to designated parking areas, and assist with maintaining a safe and organized flow. This role is perfect for individuals who are friendly, attentive, and comfortable giving clear directions. Your help ensures everyone gets to the event safely and on time! Prolonged standing and some walking are expected for the duration of this shift.

Saturday, May 31 - Ambassador/Information (7:15 - 9:45am): you’ll welcome families, answer questions, provide directions, and help ensure everyone has a smooth and enjoyable experience. This role is perfect for enthusiastic and helpful individuals who love engaging with people and creating a positive atmosphere. Volunteers may be walking, standing, or sitting for the duration of the shift.

Saturday, May 31 - Course Safety (8:00 - 10:30am *depending on course assignment): you’ll be stationed at key points along the route to cheer on runners, ensure they stay on course, and provide assistance if needed. This role is perfect for those who are encouraging, alert, and ready to help when needed! Prolonged standing and some walking are expected for the duration of this shift.

Mission Statement

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Vision Statement: We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Description

Girls on the Run(r) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

We teach 3rd - 5th graders life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run volunteer coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.

During our 8 week season participants meet with volunteer coaches for 2 practices per week. Practices are 90 minutes each and are held after school. Coaches deliver a well laid out, easy to follow curriculum designed to be user friendly. We embrace coaches from all backgrounds, regardless of prior coaching or running experience. New coaches are required to attended coach training before the season starts.

Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. Important social, psychological, and physical skills and abilities are developed and reinforced throughout the program. At each season's conclusion, the girls and their running buddies complete a celebratory 5K running event which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. The result-making the seemingly impossible, possible, and teaching girls that they can.
