Provide the comforting presence of music at bedside for patients who are receiving end-of-life care. Be part of the hospice care team, to join the physician, nurse, social worker and chaplain in providing comfort and support. Soft voiced instruments such as guitar, flute, harp, piano, and cello provide soothing presence as does unaccompanied voice. The goal is to meet with the patient in their home or facility where they live to provide music once a week or once every two weeks. The schedule is flexible and based upon your availability. No physical care of the patient is involved. Volunteers are especially needed in the Ada, Big Rapids, Caledonia, Grand Rapids, ,Grandville, Holland, Lowell, Middleville, Newaygo, Rockford, and Sparta areas Note: Volunteers are asked to wait one year after the death of a family member or friend before volunteering. Training for bedside music support Volunteers will receive 15 hours of initial training. You will also receive ongoing supervision and support.
