ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

The Santa Rosa Ranger district is located approximately 40 miles north of Winnemucca Nevada on the edge of the Great Basin and has nearly 30 miles of developed hiking trails. The elevation ranges between 4400' and 8200' with Mule Deer, Elk, Bighorn sheep, Coyotes and many different birds, including raptors, living in the area. The best season to visit is from June through October. Attractions include solitude, wildlife, wildflowers and views typical of the Great Basin.


The primary duties of a Trails Volunteer include conducting trail condition surveys and documenting problem areas. The successful candidate will be able to use geospatial mapping applications such as Avenza to navigate, track, and mark points on a digital map. Volunteer safety is of utmost importance. You will be expected to follow standard operating procedures and overall National Forest safety standards.


Qualifications:

  • Experience hiking trails is preferred but not required
  • A strong work ethic
  • Ability to walk long distances on rough, uneven terrain
