We are seeking adult volunteers who would like to spend time developing a great friendship with a local child who needs someone in their life that they can count on, someone they can talk to - someone who cares. The friendship will have the added dimension of a professional BBBS case manager who supports the match and helps the relationship thrive and endure.
We ask that our volunteers make a commitment to the child, or Little, for at least one year; during that year they typically spend 4-8 hours per month with their Little. If you are over 19, live in Monmouth or Middlesex Counties and have a valid driver's license, then you've already met the preliminary eligibility criteria to be a mentor with our organization.
Our Little Brothers and Little Sisters are regular kids. They like shooting hoops, riding their bikes, doing arts and crafts, and watching cartoons. Since many of them are from single-parent households, they just need an additional adult in their lives - someone to try new things with; someone who'll help them discover new possibilities; someone who cares; someone who can be their friend. Without a Big Brother or Sister, these children are more likely to "slip through the cracks" one day and head in the wrong direction.

For the past 47 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey (BBBSCNNJ) has been making a positive difference in the lives of children through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with adult volunteers.
Description
BBBSCNNJ provides one-to-one mentoring for youth ages 6-18 through our Community Based, School Based, Workplace, College, Bigs in Blue, Creating Access to Resources, Events, and Support (C.A.R.E.S.), and Youth Empowerment programs. By placing children in a quality mentoring relationship, we are able to provide them with the tools they need to become competent, confident, and caring members of their community.
We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships; avoidance of risky behaviors; and educational success. We currently represent 10 counties in New Jersey, including Bergen, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren.
