The Blue Ridge Parkway is recruiting volunteers to assist with the repair and reconstruction of the fences at the James River Canal (milepost 63.6). This volunteer workday will take place on Wednesday May 14, 2025. The workday will start at 9:00 am and will end at 1:00 pm. The volunteers will meet at the James River Visitor Center Parking Lot.
Major Duties
- Repair or replace existing fence
- Remove vegetation with hand tools
- Clear debris from worksite
Volunteers are asked to bring water and snacks for themselves. Volunteers will need to wear closed toed shoes, long pants, long sleeved shirt, a hat and work gloves. Sunscreen is also recommended. The required volunteer service agreements will be signed at the beginning of the session.
