Group Volunteer Opportunity - Translators Needed for Free Dental Day

ORGANIZATION: The Palmetto Palace

The Palmetto Palace is inviting private groups-such as university departments, cultural organizations, or employee resource groups-to volunteer astranslators during our First Annual Free Dental Day, taking place July 18-19, 2025, in Orangeburg, SC. This special event will providefree dental care to low-income, uninsured, and Medicaid patients.

We’re seeking bilingual or multilingual group volunteers to help reduce language barriers and create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.

What Your Group Will Do:

  • Translate during registration, intake, and dental care

  • Assist with wayfinding, instructions, and patient communication

  • Help patients complete forms and understand treatment options

Languages Needed:

  • Spanish

  • Haitian Creole

  • Vietnamese

  • Korean

  • Additional languages welcome!

Description

The Palmetto Palace is a South Carolina-based nonprofit founded in 2010 to provide comfort and critical resources to individuals and families facing medical crises. What began as bedside support for hospitalized families has grown into a statewide outreach organization delivering mobile healthcare services, education, and relief to underserved communities.

Our programs include a Mobile Health Unit, a Pharmacy Assistance Program for uninsured patients, an Education Lab on Wheels, and our newest initiative-Free Dental Day-bringing no-cost dental care to communities in need.

We aim to eliminate barriers to care, reduce health disparities, and uplift the most vulnerable through compassionate outreach. Recognized as a CDC and SC DHEC Immunization Champion, and recipient of multiple leadership awards, The Palmetto Palace is proud to serve South Carolina with integrity, innovation, and heart.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 17
  • Shifts are available on July 18 and 19, 2025. Volunteers can choose from morning (6:30 AM–11:30 AM) or afternoon (12:00 PM–5:00 PM) shifts. Groups can select one or both days. A short virtual orientation will be scheduled before the event.
  • Volunteers must be at least 17, fluent or conversational in the chosen language, and able to assist with patient communication. Friendly attitude and professionalism required. Group lead must confirm availability and attend the virtual orientation
