Indirect Support: Volunteer is to support paid staff with duties that assist them in providing excellent care to hospice patients and families. By assisting with certain duties, volunteers free up paid staff so that they can spend more time coordinating care with members of the team and providing direct care to patients and families. In this role, volunteers will rarely interact with hospice patients and/or their families. If they do, it will be through phone contact.
Special Event Phone Calls: Volunteers who Make phone calls to remind people of upcoming events, check on them during a natural disaster, or check to see if support needs to be adjusted.
Companionship Phone Calls: Volunteers who make phone calls to provide a touchpoint to patients/families to potentially decrease feelings of loneliness and isolation and check on health and wellness - which can include emotional and physical wellbeing.
Administrative tasks: Volunteers assist with making, addressing and sending out birthday and bereavement cards to patients and families.
