We’re Act Like You Matter, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering kids and teens with tools to stand up for themselves and others in the face of meanness and bullying. Our Baffle Away Bullying program teaches 3 simple steps that K-3rd (Kindergarten - 3rd grade) students can use anytime someone is being rude, mean, or bullying them.
We already offer this program through:
- Live performances in Southern CA schools
- A licensable script for performances anywhere
- A streaming video with original kid-friendly art that families and schools can rent no matter where they're located
Now we're building a web app as a free companion tool to help students practice what they’ve learned in Baffle Away Bullying. This is Phase 1 of a larger app vision, and we’re looking for a talented web developer (or small dev team) to help bring our vision to life with solid digital interaction design.
What You’ll Build (Phase 1)
You’ll help us turn our printable My Game Plan for Playing Baffle Away Bullying ("My Game Plan") worksheet into a fun, gamified web app or progressive web app (PWA) that students can use to practice and master the skills they learned by watching Baffle Away Bullying through one of our 3 formats.
The app will:
- Walk kids through creating a personalized response plan to someone who's bullying them or being mean
- Make skill building gamified and fun - think badges, smile meters, rewards, drag-and-drop interactions, role-play features, animated feedback, and more
- Reinforce emotional regulation and social-emotional skills
- Match our visual branding (we’ll provide art assets, colors, and character graphics)
An Important Note for Anyone Interested in this Project:
Our content is already fully developed and has been field-tested over 5 years with our target age group (ages 5-9). We’re not looking for someone to redesign the worksheet, rewrite the content, or change the core strategy. This is not a gig for a traditional UX researcher; the user testing is done! We’re looking for someone to turn our fully researched and developed worksheet into an engaging, digital, interactive experience that kids can tap, play, and smile through.
What You’ll Work With:
- All content is already fully developed. You’ll have access to our professionally designed art, branding colors, and (optional) video-based visuals to keep the look consistent across platforms.
- The My Game Plan worksheet content (already polished and field-tested)
- Clear guidance and collaborative feedback - we’re here to support you!
Who We’re Looking For:
- A web developer (or small team) who enjoys building interactive tools for kids
- Experienced in HTML/CSS/JS or React, or using tools like Vue, Svelte, or other PWA frameworks
- Comfortable working from existing designs and bringing them to life
- Ideally experienced in creating educational or gamified experiences for young kids ages 5-9 (K-3rd grade)
- Open to collaboration and excited to bring positive, empowering content to life
- A heart for helping kids and making a difference
Where the App Will Live:
The app will be hosted on a web app hosting platform (we're open suggestions about which one) and will be linked to from our website. It will be used by schools and families after they’ve watched the video or attended a performance - it’s a guided practice tool, not a standalone app. (Standalone app of the full Baffle Away Bullying educational program will be developed later as Phase 2; we'll post about that separately on VolunteerMatch when we're ready to proceed.)
Let’s build something beautiful that helps kids feel seen, heard, calm, and confident. We can't wait to hear from you!

All of our content, programs, and services are solution focused: providing a wide variety of tools and strategies that young people can use right away to find their voice, overcome bullying, build their resilience, and be part of the solution.
Since 2015, we've worked with 11,500+ students and 700+ teachers through our on-campus programs in Southern California, helping to reduce bullying incidents, foster empathy, and create more inclusive school environments.
We envision a world where every child feels safe, valued, heard, and respected. Whether you volunteer, donate, or spread the word, your support moves us closer to that world.
