Recruiting Organization: Mighty Writers Atlantic City
Mighty volunteers come from all walks of life, but the one thing they share is a desire to make the world a better place for kids and families in the communities we serve. In 2022, almost 400 active volunteers generously gave their time doing everything from helping a middle-schooler with her homework to handing out turkeys at Thanksgiving. Simply put, Mighty Writers could not exist without our phenomenal volunteers.
So how can you get involved? There are so many ways to help! We need people to work at our after-school academic programs, tutor kids one-on-one, hoist boxes at our distributions, hand out free books, take photos for social media, give flowers to moms on Mother's Day ... the list goes on. We'll work with you to accommodate your interests, skills and availability.
So let's get this party started. Learn more about different roles and requirements below. We look forward to getting to know you!
Volunteer RolesWriting Assistants (select locations)
Time commitment: one 1-4 hour shift per week
This is our area of greatest need. Be a homework tutor or teaching assistant at our after-school Academy. Volunteers may also assist during snack time, outdoor play and activities. In the summer, assistants work daytime hours during camp.
Writing Mentors (virtual or select locations)
Time commitment: 60-90 minutes once per week
Work one-on-one with a Mighty Writer aged 7-17 for a minimum of six months. Mentor and mentee work together in person at one of our locations to decide upon and achieve goals related to the youth’s academic, social and extracurricular ambitions.
Distribution Volunteers (select locations)
Time commitment: one 3-4 hour shift per week
Lend your compassion and muscle to support our daily food and diaper distribution. Distribution volunteers assist with meeting and unloading deliveries, setting up a welcoming environment, engaging with community members, enforcing rules and providing upkeep.
