ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Position: Maintenance Helper - Mowing


Expectation: This position is specifically for helping to maintain our grass/ landscape. This position can be based on your availability. You will meet with our maintenance team to establish a line of communication and for further guidance on areas to cut and maintain.


Tools/ Equipment: This position requires you to bring your own equipment. Please bring a lawnmower you are comfortable operating to help out. Due to the nature of this position, we ask that you bring your own tools because it allows you to be comfortable with the tools you are using and prevents any liability that comes with the use of government equipment.


Experience Requirements: Since you are responsible for your own equipment, we expect you to have some experience and working knowledge of how to and not to mow. Safety for everyone is our mission.


Time expectation: We are thankful for any volunteer hours spent with us. Therefore, we are willing to allow volunteers to come when they are available. We do ask that you call in and get on the schedule at least one week before you plan to show up and cut grass. The first volunteer shift will be under the guidance of a maintenance member and can continue to supervise until both parties feel comfortable with the expectations. We ask for a volunteer to conduct a shift at least once a week.


Safety: This is an outdoor position therefore you will be exposed to various of hazards. Some hazards include but are not limited to are excessive heat, wildlife such as snakes, sunburn, dehydration, uneven terrain, and other weather factors. There may be other hazards associated with mowing its self-such as, a rock slinging up and more. We will not ask volunteers to conduct an outdoor shift during bad weather for safety reason.


Supervisor: This position will be overlooked by our maintenance team. You will communicate your availability with the team and work out times for safety trainings. Maintenace will be your point of contact once your accepted into the volunteer position. Your secondary point of contact will be our site's CVA.
