Do you live in the North Bay and love to garden? Want to grow your network with people passionate about the environment and nurturing our local ecology? Are you looking for inspiration to make your own landscape more resilient? Interested in learning how to harvest your own food and medicine?
If your answer to any of the questions above is 'yes,’ Daily Acts wants you to sign up for our Garden Stewards program! Garden Stewards are essential volunteers who, under the supervision of a staff member, are responsible for maintaining several demonstration gardens that we’ve planted during the last few years.
This maintenance will happen during regular Garden Stewards work days, which are held on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month, from 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM. We rotate the location of each work day to ensure we are able to maintain all of our gardens.
Responsibilities:
Gardening tasks such as mulching, weeding, planting, pruning, and irrigation repair.
Special projects such as mapping plants, creating signage, and assessing where additional maintenance is needed.
Following the directions of the Daily Acts’ staff member supervising the work day.
Contributing to a positive and respectful work environment.
Qualifications:
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!!! Daily Acts staff is happy to provide training for each and every task performed at Garden Steward workdays.
All skill-levels are welcome. If there is a task you don’t feel comfortable performing, we will be happy to find an alternate task for you.
All ages can attend! However, if you are under 18, you must attend with a parent or guardian who can sign your waiver of liability.
All volunteers must sign a waiver of liability.
Benefits
Cultivating community while improving the ecological health of our local environment.
Developing and practicing sustainable gardening skills.
Harvesting edible and medicinal plants from the demonstration gardens.
Getting an invitation to Daily Acts’ annual volunteer appreciation party!
How to apply: If you are interested in becoming a Garden Steward, please visit https://dailyacts.org/volunteer/ and fill out the Garden Stewards sign up form. Once complete, we will reach out to you with next steps to get you on your way to your first work day!
