KID Museum is seeking enthusiastic and engaging volunteers (18+ adults only) to serve as Judges during our Invent the Future Expo. What is the Invent the Future Expo? Invent the Future is one of the DC Metro region’s largest maker challenges integrating science, technology, engineering, and design. Through the process of designing their own inventions, students learn to innovate, solve problems, gain confidence, and work with others - all crucial skills for future success. The Expo is a community-wide event celebrating and elevating student innovators while also showcasing challenges, activities, and exhibitions from leading corporations and community groups. What do judges do?Judges will review Invent the Future team projects with a rubric, ask questions, and provide feedback and support. No technical experience is necessary, although Judges with STEM or other related backgrounds are preferred. Judges will receive an orientation video and digital packet about the Invent the Future program, the design and creation process, and expectations for judging teams' showcase presentations. What is the time commitment? The event is on Sunday, June 1. The time commitment is 10:30am-1:30pm. Judges will be assigned a 1.5 hour shift during this time. Mission Statement
KID Museum is our region’s pioneering experiential museum and educational makerspace. We foster the "Mind of a Maker" in kids and youth, empowering the next generation with the skills to invent the future.
Description
Through hands-on programming for kids and youth (ages 4-14), we challenge young people to be active makers, not just passive observers. We design and deliver programs across the full continuum of learning for kids in pre-K through middle school, in partnership with educators and schools. Our weekend onsite programs, community events, and live, virtual sessions encourage families to learn and explore together.
Through embedded learning partnerships with local public and independent schools, we support students and teachers in developing new skills and the "Mind of a Maker." This philosophy embodies the mindset that we believe will be necessary for the next generation to successfully compete in an increasingly diverse, interconnected, and rapidly changing workforce, driven by technology.
