We believe strong leadership starts with inclusivity, transparency, and intentionality, and we are seeking applications from interested candidates who are rooted in the diverse communities we serve and whose skills, expertise, insights, and lived experience can support the organization’s strategic plan and long-term sustainability.

We are thrilled to announce an open call for board member applications. This process will allow us to:

• Expand Our Reach & Strengthen Our Visibility - By going beyond our immediate networks, we aim to cast a wide net and connect with passionate leaders from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Ensure Sustainability & Growth - This process helps us cultivate a strong, long-term network of future board leaders, ensuring the ongoing success and sustainability of Gay for Good.
• Evaluate Candidates Equitably - We are committed to assessing board prospects based on clear priorities and alignment with our mission, values, and strategic goals.

In addition to a fundamental understanding of issues impacting LGBTQ+ people, qualified candidates should possess leadership experience or subject-matter expertise in at least 2 or 3 of the following areas:

Leadership Experience:

• Nonprofit board leadership
• Nonprofit fundraising (individual, corporate, foundation)
• Senior or executive level professional
• Business or organizational leadership

Subject-Matter Expertise

• Nonprofit fundraising
• Marketing and public relations
• Legal affairs
• Strategic planning
• Technology

Gay for Good board members are expected to:

• Carry out these ten primary responsibilities of a board member.
  • Promote the mission of Gay for Good.
  • Act as ambassadors to Gay for Good and attend events.
  • Expand Gay for Good’s reach by opening doors and introducing new professional networks.
  • Make Gay for Good a top three philanthropic giving priority. Gay for Good enacts a 100% giving policy with the expectation that board members make a personally significant donation annually.

Time Commitment:

• Attend six bi-monthly board member meetings (virtually)
  • 100% attendance desired
  • Attend annual in-person board retreat (location varies)
  • Participate in at least one committee of the board strongly encouraged

Prospective board members will be evaluated on the following criteria: alignment with our mission, vision, and values; relevant expertise; experience in a professional environment and with the diverse communities we serve; and our current priorities for board composition.
