Description

We Independence is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals on dependent visas in the U.S. by addressing challenges such as isolation, lack of access to resources, and emotional overwhelm. We provide a welcoming space for resource-sharing, community engagement, and cultural exchange. Our mission is to empower dependent visa holders so they can find their place and positively impact society.

We are currently seeking a Legal Volunteer to support our growing work. This is an urgent need, and we welcome passionate legal minds who want to make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and manage legal documents relevant to nonprofit organizations (NGOs)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, especially those pertaining to Virginia corporate law (VA company law)
  • Provide legal guidance and support to internal teams as needed
  • Collaborate with the board and leadership team on governance and legal strategy
  • Optional: Exceptional candidates may be invited to join the board and become a partner in the organization

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of Virginia company law (VA corporate law)
  • Experience working with legal documentation for NGOs
  • Bar certification is not required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and remotely

Description

At We Independent, we offer a range of services designed to empower dependent visa holders and support their integration into American society. Our community forums provide a welcoming space for individuals to share experiences and build meaningful connections.

Through language learning hubs, we collaborate with local institutions to help individuals improve their English language skills, while our local support groups foster a sense of community and mutual support. We also provide volunteer and internship opportunities, allowing individuals to utilize their skills and engage in cultural exchange. Additionally, our resource library offers valuable information on mental health, legal support, and other aspects of life in the U.S.

Through these programs, we aim to empower dependent visa holders to integrate successfully into American society and achieve personal growth.
