Make a difference when it matters most. The Community Assistance (COM251) Volunteer Program is a vital part of Gilbert Fire & Rescue's mission to serve and protect the community. COM251 volunteers work alongside fire personnel on-scene, responding to both emergency and non-emergency situations to provide compassionate support and practival assistance to those in need.
After completing 28 hours of onboarding training, volunteers commit to at least two four-hour shifts each month. Responsibilities include assisting families displaced by residential fires, offering transportation services, conducting smoke alarm checks and installations, helping stranded motorists, and providing information and referrals to community members in crisis. Your presence helps free up fire crews to focus on emergency response while ensuring individuals receive timely and essential care.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age at the time of application
- Possess a valid Arizona driver's license
- Ability to lift and carry a 10' ladder
- Must back a background check and drug screen
Commitment:
- Completion of 28 hours of onboarding training
- Minimum of two 4-hour shifts per month

The Community Assistance (COM251) volunteers are vital in supporting the Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department by working alongside on-scene fire units. Volunteers complete 28 hours of onboarding training and are then expected to commit to two four-hour monthly shifts.
