We are looking for an experienced cheerleader (or cheer coach) to assist our cheerleading team for a couple of events between now and June 21st. Our strong preference is for a current resident of NJ or someone who can easily commute to Newark on Saturdays between 12:30pm and 3pm.
Purple Reign includes eight young ladies (ages 11-16) who are beginners to the world of cheer. They are coached by two outstanding coaches who both travel from NYC. We need assistance with the girls' upcoming appearance in the New York City Dance Parade (which will be held in lower Manhattan) on Saturday, May 17th. This will be the first performance for half of the team but unfortunately both coaches have an unavoidable conflict on this date.
The Parade Captain (PC) should be available to attend the next in-person practice on Saturday, April 26th from 12:30pm to 3:30pm to see the girls' routine and lend assistance with helping them refine it. There may be one or two virtual practices to help tighten the routine. The PC will then "coach" the girls through the parade. Parents and other staff members will be there for support/supervision; however, we need someone fluent in cheer to help the girls project their best image.
High school juniors or seniors are welcomed to apply for this opportunity and we will verify community service hours for schools that require it.
There is an opportunity to remain with the team long term if there is interest.

SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
