Position Summary:
We’re looking for a creative, organized, and passionate Communications Specialist to join our team! In this volunteer role, you’ll play a key part in how we tell our story.. both to the public and within our internal community. You’ll help shine a spotlight on the amazing work our organization does, introduce and celebrate staff, and keep our members and followers informed and engaged.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and schedule engaging posts for social media to highlight our initiatives, events, and impact

  • Work closely with the Social Media Manager to ensure a consistent message across platforms and avoid content overlap or double-posting

  • Create internal communications to welcome new staff and celebrate current team members

  • Help maintain a consistent voice and tone across platforms in alignment with our values

  • Collaborate with other volunteers and teams to promote events and programs

  • Brainstorm and implement new ways to increase community engagement on social media

  • Assist with basic graphic design (using Canva or similar tools) for posts and updates

  • Monitor GFS-related social media activity and respond to comments or messages as needed

  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies to grow our reach and visibility

Qualifications:

  • Strong written communication skills with a friendly, professional tone

  • Comfortable using or learning tools like Canva, Buffer/Hootsuite, Discord, or similar platforms

  • Interest in or experience with social media and community engagement

  • Collaborative spirit and self-motivated attitude

  • Passion for gender inclusivity and GFS’s mission
