Description of Duties:
- Volunteer will conduct sampling and data collection for the Natural Resources Division for Cape Cod National Seashore. Sampling will be conducted at the 6 lifeguarded CACO beaches every Monday from late June to late August.
- Volunteer will collect data by wading a few feet out from the shore.
- Volunteer will use park provided equipment to collect basic data on water conditions, as well as water and air temperature.
- Samples will be left in designated cooler at the Park Headquarters building to be picked up and delivered to Envirolabs for data analysis.
- Volunteers will be anticipated to work for 5-hour shifts.
- Independently drive and operate a government vehicle.
- Use of government provided sampling equipment.
Working Environment and Safety Considerations:
Volunteer will be expected to work independently and safely in an outdoor setting. This includes:
- Walking on uneven and sandy beach terrain, wading through shallow water for sampling, and working in dynamic weather conditions.
- Volunteers will be expected to dress appropriately for the forecast.
- Volunteers must be able to carry equipment weighing approximately 10 pounds.
- Outdoor settings could involve work in places with biting insects.
- Performing duties in temperatures ranging from 40F to 90F.
- Performing duties during intense sunshine.
Park staff will provide training on duties, safety, and will provide necessary equipment.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, including good listening skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to create a safe working environment.
