Visitor Information Services Volunteer

Volunteer will assist visitors at the front desk by answering questions and orienting visitors to the forest and local area at the Supervisor’s Office in Arcadia, CA.
Volunteer may assist Public Affairs with Forest Service approval/coordination (up to half time):
- Volunteer will review public forest webpages for both knowledge and for accuracy / best language to explain to the public and will make suggestions for improvements.
- Volunteer may research and write information about specific topics related to history nature to expand forest webpage content for the public.
- Volunteer may ride along in a government vehicle with a paid staff member.
- Volunteer may take photos of forest sites.
- Volunteer may assist with video production.
- Volunteer may assist with providing training for staff.
- Volunteer may occasionally spend some time in the forest and/or field to assist with information services in a forest visitor center/OHV information office, pick up trash or planting vegetation in the forest, help with special events, and assist with leading small sections of educational programs in the forest.
Volunteers may be a passenger in a government owned vehicle. Volunteers must sign a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and wear any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required. Appropriate PPE may include closed toed shoes, hard hats, eye protection, gloves, pants, and long sleeve shirts. This agreement does not include transportation to or from the worksite.
Volunteers must pass a background investigation and wear appropriate attire, including a Forest Service shirt, vest, or uniform while on-duty.
