Volunteers participate in various community events to promote awareness of Friends of Oakland Animal Services (FOAS), and the impact that FOAS makes for animals through our partnership with Oakland Animal Services (OAS).
Volunteer activities:
- Set up and staff the FOAS table at various community events (e.g. street fairs, farmers’ markets, etc.) to promote awareness of FOAS.
- Initiate conversations with the public to share information/answer questions about FOAS.
- Hand out flyers, brochures, and other resources to educate the public about FOAS’s work and impact.
- Help to increase community involvement and support for FOAS.

Friends of Oakland Animal Services is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed by shelter volunteers in 2005, to fund critical services for thousands of animals every year that enter the City of Oakland's open-admissions shelter, Oakland Animal Services. Our mission is to provide homes, health, and happiness to Oakland’s animals in need.

Since our founding in 2005, our primary focus has been to fund programs and activities at Oakland Animal Services that improve services to the people and animals of Oakland.

- - Volunteers participate in various events throughout the year. Currently our biggest need is for mid-May to end of June, 2025. We ask that volunteers commit to volunteering at 3 or more events per year, for at least 2 hours per event.
